📹: Luisa Almaguer #DamonAlbarn #Gorillaz #AfricaExpr

Things are so different now to when I started. The access to resources, affordable gear and even players themselves is unprecedented but that can sometimes lead to paralysis of options. Here are just some simple things I know to be true that I would definitely do if picking up the bass guitar today: 1. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT break the bank on your first bass. Infact you can get a @harleybentonofficial J style bass do like £150 that i would play live/on a record in a heartbeat. Look at what y

Embarrassed… impressed I made it this far…so many feelings… In my mid-twenties, I got dropped from a record deal. That crushed me. It set off mental health struggles and addictions that took years to recover from. But here’s the thing — if I hadn’t lost that deal, I wouldn’t have had the space to say yes to Africa Express…to Damon Albarn…to Gorillaz. My solo music has always been the hardest to share. Even though I write constantly and I’m a strong performer, I’ve fed the side of my career that

One of the strangest parts of being a musician (at any level) is the swing between the highs and the quiet. Not even lows…just the shift. One minute it’s adrenaline, crowds, lights, planes, tour bus and splitter van…the next you’re on a train platform with your gear or at home doing laundry wondering what day it is. It’s a lot. Music as a job is exposing, beautiful, chaotic, scary and brilliant all at once. And no one really teaches you how to go from “this” to “this.” If you’re a musician, keep

Big bands like Gorillaz come with big blessings…and big trade-offs. Playing to huge crowds is incredible….but it’s also high pressure. Seeing new countries every day is amazing…but constant motion takes a toll. The attention can be flattering….but you have to stay centred or it’ll own you. Being catered for is a gift…but you miss home, friends, family, routine. I love what I do. I’m grateful every single day I get to do it and the people I do it with. But if you want this life, know this: it’s s

An open-water swimmer says a routine morning swim in Lake Tahoe turned into a frightening encounter when an otter attacked her underwater, leaving her with nearly 40 stitches. Lynnette Bellin said she was swimming near Hidden Beach in Incline Village when something suddenly grabbed her leg and pulled her underwater. Experts say violent encounters between people and river otters are incredibly rare and that the attack may be tied to a protective mother.
