Qatar netted a last-gasp equalizer to steal a point from Switzerland in the teams’ 2026 World Cup opener, a 1-1 draw at at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Saturday, June 13. Switzerland’s Breel Embolo calmly converted a penalty kick in the 17th minute and it looke dlike the Swiss would hold on the rest of the way – until Boualem Khoukhi scored in the 94th minute for Qatar.

This will be the second match for both Canada and Qatar and the 27th overall match in the World Cup. Qatar is taking the pitch for their first game on Saturday and are currently facing Switzerland. Canada earned one point after their first match against Bosnia and Herzegovina after a game-tying goal from Cyle Larin.

The 2026 World Cup kicks into high gear on Saturday, June 13, with a full slate of four matches taking place on both coasts and in two nations.
